A meeting to check on a child who is in a mental health hospital, or at risk of going into one. You and your child take part, and you can ask for one.

A Care (Education) and Treatment Review, often shortened to C(E)TR, is for autistic children and children with a learning disability Learning disability A health term for finding it much harder to learn and to manage everyday tasks, starting in childhood. It is not the same as a learning difficulty at school. Read the full definition of Learning disability who are in a mental health hospital or may be about to be admitted to one. It brings together your family, the people planning your child's care, an independent chair and clinical experts. Together they check whether the care, education and treatment are right, and whether hospital is needed at all.

The E sits in brackets because reviews for children and young people also cover education. Community C(E)TRs happen before any admission, to see whether the right support could keep your child at home. Very few parents know this review exists, and you do not have to wait to be offered one: you can ask your child's NHS team for it. This applies in England.
