Within normal limits
A report phrase that means a test score fell in the average range. It describes one test on one day, not how your child copes in everyday life.
Applies across the UK
Reports use within normal limits, or WNL, to say a score fell inside the average Descriptive range The words a report uses to sum up a score, like 'average' or 'extremely low'. Tests draw these bands in their own places, so the same word can mean different scores. Read the full definition of Descriptive range range for a child's age. That tells you how your child performed on one task, in a quiet room, usually with one friendly adult and no distractions. It does not measure how they manage in a noisy classroom, with friendships, or at the end of a long day. If the scores say average but your child is clearly struggling, say so. What you see every day is evidence too, and it belongs in the assessment.
