Mental health crisis line

An urgent phone line for a mental health crisis. In England and Wales, call 111 and choose the mental health option; call 999 if a life is at risk.

If your child is in a mental health crisis, you do not have to wait for a routine appointment. In England and Wales you can call 111 NHS 111 A free NHS phone and online service for urgent medical help. Call 111 or use the NHS 111 website when you need help now and it is not a 999 emergency. Read the full definition of NHS 111 and select the mental health option, or use 111 online, at any time of day or night. You may be put through to a trained mental health professional who can tell you the right place to get help. If someone's life is at risk, call 999 or go to A&E.

You will sometimes see this route written as NHS 111 option 2 or 111 press 2 on older leaflets. Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own urgent mental health arrangements, so the number and route differ there.
